Johan Goosen signs at Loftus

The rumors of Johan Goosen joining the Bulls have now become a reality with the 28 year old Springbok finally signing on Friday. He is set to join the franchise on the 1st of July 2021.

The Bulls are already looking dangerous, fielding Springbok players such as Morne Steyn and Captain Nizaam Carr. Goosen will only add experience to the Bulls side as a senior player.

Goosen made his South African debut on the 8th of September 2012 against Australia in a 26–19 defeat in Perth. Previously Goosen has been a replacement 10 to veteran Springbok, Morne Steyn. It will certainly be interesting to see the two link up on the field in July. We already know him as a strong utility back, playing at center, fullback and flyhalf. I am sure everyone is excited to see him at 15 in the Blue jersey.

We are definitely excited for Johan's imminent arrival in Pretoria and look forward to his contribution. He has consistently performed at the highest levels since his early days and his experience will bode well for our younger backs while providing us with attacking opportunities when he takes the field. Said Bulls Director of Rugby, Jake White.

The Bulls have a relatively youthful backline so it makes sense for Jake White to be signing a player like Johan Goosen. He will definitely be of value at Loftus, hopefully we can see him play good rugby again. Goosen's most recent club is French based side Montpellier, playing in the Top 14 where he was their resident Fullback.

He was also a member of the South African Under 20 Team that competed in the 2011 IRB World Championship and was named in the squad for the following year, but unfortunately had to withdraw from the selection due to a shoulder injury sustained on 28th April in a Super Rugby match. At the time of his injury, Goosen was the leading points scorer in his debut season of super rugby with 145 points from 9 games. The total included 3 tries, 17 conversions, 31 penalties and a drop goal. All of this is rather impressive considering the average amount of points scored per game would be 16 points! Over 3 tries per game worth of points! There is no doubt that he will be a star in Blue for the Bulls, rugby in Pretoria certainly has an exciting future!
